Tell County Council and Executive Elrich: Fund MCPS BoE Budget

Montgomery County Council and Executive Elrich

Superintendent Taylor and the MCPS Board of Education recently proposed a budget that invests in educators and students.  This budget adds support for students receiving Special Education and English Language Development services. It also provides funding that enhances efforts to recruit and retain quality educators in Montgomery County.

But before this budget can help our schools and students, it must be included in County Executive Elrich’s budget and then funded by the County Council.

Sign this online petition to the County Executive and County Council urging them to adopt and fully fund the Board of Education’s budget.

Dear County Executive Elrich and County Council Members,

Montgomery County is facing a choice: to make meaningful investments in our schools that will improve student outcomes or to continue the prolonged disinvestment in our students. This underfunding has had a devastating impact on MCPS students.

The Board of Education’s 2025-26 operating budget contains absolutely critical investments that are needed to meet the fundamental needs of our students. I urge County Executive Elrich to include full funding of MCPS in his budget and the County Council to fully fund our schools. While this year’s budget does not address every MCPS issue, it is a major step forward.

Fully fund the Board of Education’s budget for Montgomery County’s students and families. We are counting on you to do the right thing.
