Tell Democratic Leadership: Stop spamming me!

DSCC Chair, DCCC Chair, CEO Of Bonterra

Our mailboxes and phones are being clogged up by un-permissioned messages from candidates we've never heard of, and it's only getting worse every year.

Grandma is now so deluged that she's missing notes from the grandkids, and reminders from her doctors -- and she probably got scammed into a recurring donation she has no idea how to stop.

The endless barrage of fundraising asks needs to end - we're all sick of it, and there's strong evidence it turns voters off and depresses turnout on election day.

A few key people in leadership roles at the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Commitee, and Bonterra (primary digital vendor to most Democratic campaigns) can solve this problem - if they choose to do so.

So please speak out today by signing the petition and telling leaders in the Democratic Party and its vendors to STOP SENDING SPAM.

I'm strongly urging you, and ALL the candidates and committees you work with, to STOP sending fundraising appeals on email and text to people who never agreed to receive them.

I'm sick of it -- especially from candidates nowhere near me - and all my friends are too. What's worse is the effect on elderly voters, who have no idea how to opt out and frequently get scammed into recurring donations they don't understand how to cancel.

And there's strong evidence that the deluge of continuous asks simply angers voters and depresses turnout on Election Day.

So I ask you today to:
- STOP requiring candidates to share supporter lists;
- Establish a strong, public and universal "do not share my info" registry; and
- Discourage or prohibit candidates you work with from messaging people who never opted in to hear from that campaign.

It should be clear from recent election results that what you're doing is not working. So I hope you're willing to change your ways and adopt more ethical standards in your messaging and fundraising practices.
