Tell Fairmont Château Laurier: Bring back fired steward!

Genevieve.Dumas@Fairmont.com, matthew.kreft@fairmont.com

A member and union steward working at Fairmont Château Laurier, and employed by the cleaning contractor ServeGreen, was recently fired in what we believe is clearly an example of retaliation for his union activity.

In July, the union put forward a Unfair Labour Practice complaint regarding multiple allegations of threats, intimidation, and coercion against members. Our complaint also submits that ServeGreen interfered with the Union’s right to initiate a work stoppage.

This union steward courageously raised his voice and included his experiences in this complaint. And then he was fired.

Workers should never have to choose between speaking up and keeping their jobs.

We’re now calling on the hotel to hold the contractor it hired accountable, reinstate this worker, and ensure he gets paid retroactively.

I've learned that a member of SEIU Local 2 and union steward working (we are currently withholding his name) at Fairmont Château Laurier, and employed by the cleaning contractor ServeGreen, was recently fired in what is clearly an example of retaliation for his union activity.

This union steward courageously raised his voice and included his experiences in an Unfair Labour Practice complaint. And then he was fired.

I'm joining the call to tell to Fairmont Château Laurier to hold the contractor it hired accountable, reinstate this worker, and ensure he gets paid retroactively.
