Tell NRC Chair Marcus Branstad and the DNR to oppose the CO2 pipelines!

Natural Resource Commission Chair, Marcus Branstad

Summit Carbon Solutions wants water permits that would use an estimated half a billion gallons of water per year - that ain't right! It's the Iowa DNR's job to approve or deny the permits based on whether or not they are of "beneficial use".

The Natural Resource Commission (NRC) is the “citizen voice” to protect and manage our natural resources at the DNR. We need them to take a stand on this issue by publicly opposing water permits for the CO2 pipelines.

The chair of the commission is Marcus Branstad, add your name to our letter asking him and the Natural Resource Commission to oppose water permits for CO2 pipelines!

Dear Commission Chair Branstad,

Members of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) would like to draw your attention to the urgency and level of concern over CO2 pipelines. Summit Carbon Solutions - and whichever LLCs and subsidiaries they’re applying for water permits under - would be allowed to extract an estimated half a billion gallons of water per year if water permits are approved by the Iowa DNR for their proposed CO2 pipeline project.

CO2 pipelines are not of beneficial use, thousands of Iowans oppose them because:

• They’re dangerous and potentially deadly - - local communities aren’t equipped to respond when a rupture happens
• They use “technology” that’s consistently failed to reduce carbon emissions,
that’s why they’re a false energy solution
• They tear up valuable farm ground, and destroy our land and soil
• They would use an estimate half a billion gallons of water
• They rely heavily on public money - taxpayer dollars - for financing
• They put millions of dollars in the pockets of wealthy CEOs, and leave us holding the bag
• They would use eminent domain for private gain and that ain't right!

Paired with this letter are the signatures of the Iowans who are counting on you and the Natural Resource Commission to protect our precious natural resource, water. CCI members and supporters are everyday folks who work hard to make Iowa a wonderful place to live. Show the people of Iowa that you respect their livelihoods, and publicly oppose the water permits for the Summit Carbon Solutions.

Please contact Kira@IowaCCI.org or call (515) 282-04840 to give your response. We look forward to seeing you take this opportunity to stand up for our natural resources.
