Tell Pet Food Companies to Stop Putting Profits Over Pets and Pet Owners!
Brian Garish, Banfield COO; Art Antin, VCA President & Chairman; Grant Reid, MARS, Inc CEO
Companies such as Banfield and VCA (both owned by mega conglomerate MARS) are profit driven, but that does not mean they should seek a way to extract money in every interaction with the clients and patients they serve. At every turn, pet owners are asked to pay large sums to keep their pets healthy. From checkup to surgeries, cancer treatment to dental - MARS PETCARE makes money on every interaction. But at some point, this profit driven system takes a step too far. Profiting on pets, even after they have passed, is unethical and the abuse should be stopped.
By signing this petition you are calling on the MARS PETCARE Companies, Banfield and VCA to change the practice of forcing pet owners to continue paying for full price pet care contracts, even after their pet has passed. Owners already suffer the emotional loss of a friend. MARS PETCARE companies should adopt a more lenient approach to the cancellation of these profit driven policies.

We, the undersigned call on MARS PETCARE to end enforcement of heartless billing policies after the death of a pet enrolled in a "wellness plan" contracts at Banfield Pet Hospitals and VCA General Practice.
It is outrageous for Banfield and VCA to offer no leniency whatsoever on payments for a monthly “wellness plan” for a pet that has died. We demand that MARS PETCARE leaders change the way they treat pet owners who may have just lost their best friend.
We demand VCA and Banfield prioritize pets over profits, and an immediate change in the VCA and Banfield “wellness plan” policies.
Pet owners do not deserve to be reminded once a month that their pet has died, nor do they deserve a huge bill to exit a contract at the time of their pet’s death. Currently, these are the only two options that VCA and Banfield offer.
MARS PETCARE companies, Banfield and VCA, should offer compassionate policies after pets in their care have passed away. It is unacceptable and offensive for this corporation to continue to profiteer in such an emotionally damaging way while families grieve the loss of a loved one.
