Tell Rockrose to not use low-road Alba Services to perform demolition at the former St. Francis College!

Rockrose Development

We call on Rockrose Development to not use Alba Services to perform demolition at the former St. Francis College Campus in Brooklyn.

Alba has a long and well-documented history of worker exploitation, environmental concerns and unsafe conditions:

  • In May 2017 workers filed a Fair Labor Standards Act class action lawsuit against Alba for failure to pay the correct overtime rate which resulted in a $1.5 million settlement.

  • In April 2021 the New York City Department of Sanitation issued a penalty against Alba Carting and Demolition Inc. for illegally dumping construction debris. The New York City Department of Buildings also issued a ticket against Alba Services for using unacceptable backfill.

  • In 2021 Alba Services was sued by the New York State Insurance Fund for breach of contract due to unpaid workers’ compensation premiums

  • In March 2022 two workers were injured in a fall while cutting a beam at 171 Calyer Street in Brooklyn. In May 2023 the lawyer for one of the injured workers verified that the worker remained hospitalized after suffering injuries from the fall including a coma and spine fracture.

  • In January 2023 Andrew Horan of Alba Services was indicted for a kickback scheme by the Manhattan District Attorney

Using Alba disrespects our communities! Rockrose has been a respected developer, they should live up to their reputation and kick Alba to the curb. Brooklyn needs contractors that are safe for workers and pedestrians and not low-road companies with a history of exploitation and safety concerns.
