Climate hawk Adelita Grijalva won a landslide victory in September, beating her nearest challenger by roughly 40 points. So why is House Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson refusing to allow her to take her seat and vote in the US House of Representatives?

It could be that Grijalva has promised to be the 218th signer on a “discharge petition” that would bring a vote to release the Epstein files directly to the House floor. Or it be that Grijalva will cut the MAGA majority in the U.S. House to its thinnest point in months. Or it could just be that Adelita is awesome: Arizona’s first-ever Latina congresswoman, a stalwart progressive, and endorsed by establishment and change groups alike to succeed her father: the late, great, Rep. Raúl Grijalva.

Whatever the reason, this is ridiculous. Grijalva won with more than 68 percent of the vote, and even her MAGA opponent has conceded. But Speaker Johnson is still threatening to withhold Grijalva’s rightful seat in Congress until October 14th, or later.
