Tell the City of Philadelphia: Defend Sanctuary in Philadelphia
Mayor Cherelle Parker CC: Philadelphia City Council, Philadelphia School District
Nearly a decade ago, the City of Philadelphia made a clear and decisive commitment to protect immigrant community members from harmful immigration enforcement by declaring itself a Sanctuary City.
Today, however, the city's commitment to keeping immigrant communities safe feels far less certain. As we confront the possibility of Trump returning to the White House, along with his unprecedented plans for mass deportation and increased detention, we cannot afford to stand idly by and wait to be saved.
Together, we must demand that the City of Philadelphia reaffirm its Sanctuary City status before Trump takes office. Let us also call on our city to reimagine what it truly means to be a Sanctuary—in our schools, our neighborhoods, and beyond—while boldly rejecting ICE enforcement actions such as detention and deportation as cruel and incompatible with the values of a city that prides itself on being a place of brotherly loveNow, we are calling on our community and allies to defend Sanctuary in Philadelphia by signing and sharing this petition in which we request the following:
- Mayor Cherrelle Parker, along with City Council, guarantee and expand Sanctuary City status in Philadelphia, while also ensuring all city agencies' compliance
- Investigating how ICE is accessing information about community members and their court appearances.
- School District of Philadelphia commit to its Welcoming School Resolution and implement our Newcomer Program Proposal
Philadelphia’s status as a Sanctuary City must mean more than words—it must reflect bold action to defend the safety and rights of our immigrant communities.
