Tell Tom Barrett: Support Equal Pay for Equal Work

Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Potterville

We need to send a message to Lansing politicians like Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Potterville) that Michigan women deserve to earn equal pay for equal work.

A recent study released by the National Partnership for Women and Families shows that a typical Michigan woman earns 75 cents for every dollar earned by a typical Michigan man when both have a similar education and experience level.

That equates to an annual earning deficit of more than $12,738 for full-time working women. The gender wage gap could cover a year’s worth of mortgage payments, more than a year’s worth of groceries, or about 6,000 gallons of gasoline.

Tell Tom Barrett to support House Bills 4483-4492, 4515, and 4525.

Michigan women deserve to earn equal pay for equal work. According to a recent report from the National Partnership for Women and Families, Michigan women only earn about 75 cents for every dollar men earn in similar jobs. This needs to change, and we're calling on you to take action by co-sponsoring pay equity legislation in the Michigan House of Representatives: House Bills 4483-4492, 4515, and 4525. Equal pay legislation is good for women, good for families, and good for the whole state. It's time for you to do the right thing and support this important legislation.
