Tell your Reps: Double Pell

Congress

Pell Grants are the foundation of our national investment in higher education. Nearly seven million low- and moderate-income Americans currently depend on Pell Grants to attend college. Unfortunately, the purchasing power of a Pell Grant is at a 40 year low, only covering about 28 percent of the average cost of a four-year degree at a public college.

We should be investing in and strengthening Pell Grants to help more students complete college without burdensome debt. Congress acted in December 2020 to expand Pell Grant eligibility - but they need to do more.

We’re calling on Congress to restore Pell Grants’ intended purchasing power by doubling the maximum award, and by ensuring that its funding increases every year to keep up with inflation and growing tuition costs.
