Every day, AI videos are being fed to children who use YouTube and YouTube Kids. Even though it may look innocent, this “AI slop” can harm children’s developing brains.

Creators are making millions of dollars by posting AI slop for kids as young as babies. These videos are often labeled “educational,” but they can actually make it harder for kids to learn, twist their sense of reality, and keep them glued to the screen and away from the play and socializing that kids need!

Recent research has shown that, after watching a popular video, 40% of the videos that YouTube recommends to children are AI slop. Even YouTube Kids, which is supposed to have child-friendly content, is full of AI videos! What’s more, Google (which owns YouTube) recently announced that it’s investing in even more AI videos for kids.

It’s time to take action.

As covered in the news, over 235 organizations and experts signed on to a letter to Google and YouTube to demand that they take action to protect kids from AI slop on their platforms. You can read the full letter here: http://bit.ly/stopAIslop

Now, these companies need to hear from you!

Please sign on to the letter below to add your voice to the call for Google and YouTube to protect children. We must put pressure on these Big Tech companies to stop recommending and hosting AI slop videos for kids, and to make it easier for users to identify and turn off AI videos.

Together, we can ensure that Google and YouTube don’t profit off of harming kids.

I am part of a group of parents, family members, caregivers, educators, and community members concerned about the rise of AI-generated content on YouTube and YouTube Kids.

Children are seeing a flood of low-quality “AI slop” videos designed to grab attention, not support healthy development. This content can confuse and overwhelm them, and keep them watching longer at the expense of real-world play and learning.

Kids deserve better.

Right now, YouTube allows AI-generated content to be uploaded and recommended to kids without meaningful safeguards, leaving families and kids to deal with the consequences.

We’re calling on you to:

- Label AI-generated content clearly.
- Stop hosting AI-generated “Made for Kids” videos on YouTube.
- Stop hosting all AI-generated content on YouTube Kids.
- Stop recommending AI content to children under 18.
- Make it easier for parents to turn off AI-generated content for their kids.
- End investments in the creation of AI-generated videos for kids.

We ask that you make these changes immediately to protect all children from the harms of AI slop.
