Thank you note to Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer
Donald Trump’s shutdown took us to a very dangerous precipice. Thanks to all of our work, calling on Congress to stand up to him, the shutdown is over.
We said over and over that the government needed to be reopened. Our government can’t be held hostage over a political ideology or sound bite.
While others helped from both sides of the aisle, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer held firm, refusing to negotiate on anything until the government reopened. People’s lives and paychecks are too important to allow them to be used as bargaining chips.
Send a thank-you note to Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Schumer. Let them know how grateful you are for their strong leadership during the shutdown.

Thank you for your leadership and determination in reopening the federal government. This action is long overdue and you were instrumental in making this happen.
As both of you stated many times over the past 5 weeks, not getting your way is not a justification for shutting down the government and locking 800,000 dedicated civil servants out of their jobs. Bullying and hostage taking should never be rewarded and your efforts blocked that from happening.
We are glad that the agreement reached by the White House and Congress will re-open the government for three weeks, allowing employees to start receiving paychecks for the first time this year.
However, now is not the time to celebrate about a temporary reprieve to a politically motivated crisis that has left many federal employees in anguish over how to pay their bills, feed their families, and keep a roof over their heads.
Over the next three weeks, Congress must pass a full-year appropriations bill for all government agencies as well legislation to make all affected federal employees whole is enacted into law. We know that you will lead in this effort as well.
Again, we applaud your incredibly hard work and commitment to ending this unneeded and unprecedented shutdown.
