Fossil fuel companies are raking in the profits while wrecking the climate. The world urgently needs an exit plan from coal, oil and gas.

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty is a bold idea that's gaining support fast - from countries, parliamentarians, academics, civil society organisations and citizens around the world who recognise the urgent need for a global effort focused on a fast, fair and managed phase out of coal, oil and gas.

We are calling on the university to publicly endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and to publicly call on the Scottish and UK governments to do the same. Burning the world’s current fossil fuel reserves would result in seven times more emissions than is compatible with the Paris Agreement to keep warming below 1.5ºC.

International cooperation is needed to come to an agreement to stop new fossil fuel extraction, phase out current production and manage a global transition from oil, gas and coal in a manner that is both fast and fair. A Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty could do that.

This universities moto is 'be the difference ' We are asking that it stands by its words. Be the difference, be the first university in the UK to endorse the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
