In a sweeping retreat from global cooperation, the U.S. is withdrawing from 66 international organizations that help the world confront the biggest threats to humanity — including climate change and biodiversity collapse. That means walking away from the very institutions that coordinate science, share solutions, and hold governments accountable when they fail to protect people and the planet.

This decision is reckless — and it couldn’t come at a worse time.

We are living through two emergencies at once: a climate crisis that is fueling extreme heat, wildfires, floods, and stronger storms… and a biodiversity crisis that is wiping out species and pushing ecosystems toward collapse. These crises aren’t separate. They are deeply connected — and they make each other worse.

When forests burn, oceans warm, and wetlands disappear, the planet loses some of its strongest natural defenses against climate change. Nature is one of our greatest carbon sinks — and when ecosystems break down, they stop absorbing carbon and start releasing it. That creates a vicious cycle of accelerating warming, worsening disasters, and growing instability.

And it’s not just wildlife that suffers. When nature collapses, communities lose clean water, stable food supplies, storm protection, and livelihoods. Our coastlines become more vulnerable. Our families become less safe. Our future becomes more uncertain.

Global problems demand global solutions. The U.S. cannot fight climate change while turning its back on international collaboration — and it cannot protect biodiversity while abandoning the science and cooperation that make real action possible.

We are calling on the Trump Administration to reverse this decision immediately and re-engage with the world to confront the climate and biodiversity crises together.

Because leadership means showing up.
