Twitter: Ban Asian Hate Hashtags
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey
A new report from Stop AAPI hate found that racism and violence targeting Asian-Americans is spiking, with nearly 4,000 incidents in the U.S. just in the past year! Another recent study found a 900% increase in hate speech on Twitter targeting the Chinese and Chinese Americans.
It’s heartbreaking and unacceptable – and all of us have a role to play in putting a stop to it.
But Twitter – which is used by millions of kids and teens – is still allowing racist, anti-Asian hashtags like KungFlu and BatEatingChinese that falsely blame Chinese people for the coronavirus pandemic.
That’s why I’m calling on Twitter to immediately crack down on racist hashtags and remove them from the platform entirely. If enough people sign on, Twitter will take notice and need to consider making this change.

Racism and violence targeting Asian-Americans is on the rise – and it’s past time for Twitter to do something about it. Immediately crack down on racist hashtags on your platform and institute a process for ensuring that new racist hashtags do not gain traction in the future.
