Twitter: Suspend Donald Trump’s account
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey
Since the polls have closed -- at least a dozen of President Trump’s post-election tweets have been flagged by Twitter because they contained dangerous, misleading claims about the race and the results.
Twitter’s Civic Integrity Policy lays out measures to ensure voters can get accurate information about the election on its platform. And Twitter may temporarily lock accounts for violations of its Civic Integrity Policy -- or permanently suspend offending users for severe and repeated violations.
Trump continues to unabashedly violate these rules with his attempts to disrupt the proper counting of ballots, spread lies about the votes being tallied, and stir unrest through his tweets.
And these tweets are having alarming real-life effects. Just hours after Trump made false claims about ballots in Michigan, hundreds of his supporters showed up at a ballot-counting site in Detroit -- to intimidate election workers and demand that vote counting be halted.
If Twitter’s policies are to have any meaning -- they must be strictly enforced. We’d expect any other Twitter user who deliberately violated the platform’s terms of service like Trump has to have their account immediately locked.
In the balance between the newsworthiness of a public figure and threats to our democracy, no exception should be made for President Trump. His campaign to spread disinformation and sow unrest amongst his followers is too dangerous to neglect.
Adding flags and disclaimers to President Trump’s tweets is a start -- but usually, by the time they've been added, countless users have already been exposed to the disinformation. Instead, it’s time for Twitter to take firm, proactive measures and suspend Trump’s account.

Donald Trump has repeatedly and flagrantly violated Twitter’s civic integrity policies. Especially since Election Day -- he has consistently tweeted dangerous disinformation about voting that is inciting real-life action against ballot-counters from his followers.
Twitter cannot allow Trump to keep misleading voters and stoking chaos with impunity. We’re calling on CEO Jack Dorsey to take decisive action and suspend Trump’s account -- so election officials can do their jobs and count every vote without disruption.
