UC: Top Talent Deserves Top Dollar!
UC Chancellors and Medical Center CEOs

Our Teamsters Bargaining Team will begin negotiations Sept. 16 with the University of California for fair pay and benefits in our next collective bargaining agreement, and we need all CX Unit members to stand in unity and support our team!
The UC brings in billions every year from public funding and rising student tuition but still try to force their own workers to pay more in healthcare-related costs, employee retirement contributions, and parking fees. They claim a commitment to public service at the same time as they say that there is no more money for the workers who keep the UC running.
We’re gearing up for a tough fight with UC due to their insistence that they cannot afford to absorb rising healthcare and retirement costs. We say baloney! The UC can well-afford to construct fancy new buildings and give administrators hefty raises. With their many sources of income—including multi-billion dollar producing hospitals and medical centers—they are well-positioned to move money in order to pay these costs. Where would our members find this additional money? Many UC workers are barely making ends meet as it is.
Let’s tell UC that we’re looking forward to productive negotiations that protect our healthcare benefits and salary steps implemented in our current contract. World-class universities call for top talent. Top talent deserves top dollar!

Chancellors and Medical Center Executives,
The UC takes in billions of dollars each year from public funding, tuition, research, and its multi-billion-dollar hospitals and health system. Yet the institution continues to offload higher costs for healthcare, retirement, and parking onto employees—many of whom are already financially strapped and struggling day after day. Meanwhile, fancy new buildings rise and executive salaries continue to climb. This is not acceptable.
We will not accept a contract that shifts financial burdens onto employees while the UC continues to amass resources. The UC cannot be a world-class university and premier medical institution without the staff who work tirelessly to keep them operating.
We expect you to demonstrate leadership by committing to fair, equitable compensation and benefits during upcoming negotiations. World-class universities call for top talent. Top talent deserves top dollar!
