UCLA: We Demand New Leadership and an End to the Hostile Work Environment in FCU!
President of UCLA Health Johnese Spisso, RN, MPA, and Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences John Mazziotta
We, the employees of the UCLA Financial Clearance Unit (FCU) and members of Teamsters Local 2010, are petitioning to bring attention to the unfair and unhealthy work environment created by supervisors and managers under the direction of Director Theresa Kyles.
FCU workers have experienced extreme micromanagement, belittling, and little support for years under the direction of Theresa Kyles.
New employees, who do not have adequate training or experience, are expected to hit a daily goal of completing 50 accounts, the same as seasoned employees.
Some workers are expected to take incoming calls from patients and still hit the daily goal, while others can focus solely on completing the 50 accounts.
Workers who are also parents get no flexibility or consideration for having to home school and attend to small children. Instead they are harassed all day about their productivity.
We do not receive assistance from our supervisors when we have patients who need help or who are frustrated because they cannot get the answers they need.
Many of our supervisors are not trained themselves to supervise or perform our job.
Favoritism and nepotism are rampant in the FCU, with promotions going only to favorites, relatives and/or friends of Theresa Kyles, even when those workers have less experience and seniority than others who have expressed interest in advancement.
Managers continually send emails all day long checking on worker status without allowing us the freedom to complete our daily work.
We have tried numerous times to solve these issues with Director Kyles, and our Union has collected worker surveys to show her how real these concerns are. But nothing has changed.
We tried to create a committee of employees and managers/supervisors to work toward resolving these issues but Theresa Kyles would not agree to meeting to improve our working conditions.
We, the signers of this petition, demand new leadership, real change, and an investigation into the rampant bullying and hostile work environment that workers in the UCLA Financial Clearance Unit have endured for years. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
WE ARE HUMANS NOT ROBOTS
WE NEED SUPPORT NOT STRESS
RESPECT AND DIGNITY FOR ALL WORKERS
