UndocuMedia Belongs to the People: Francisco J. Barragan, Abductor of UndocuMedia, RESIGN!

Francisco J. Barragan

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate official resignation of Francisco Barragan and Ivan Ceja from UndocuMedia. Francisco Barragan is Ivan’s uncle and the self-appointed “Chairman of the Board of Directors”, the “Chair of the Permanent Nominating Committee”, and the “President, Founder, and Incorporator” of UndocuMedia. UndocuMedia is a non-profit organization that is of the people for the people. The underlying structure that Francisco Barragan and Ivan Ceja created for UndocuMedia is nepotic and lacks transparency and check and balances. Francisco is a US citizen and has abducted a platform that does NOT belong to him and played no role in building.

The original UndocuMedia team officially came together in 2011. The present iteration of UndocuMedia under the control of Francisco Barragan does NOT reflect the values and leadership that the original team had envisioned for the platform. Given Ivan Ceja’s resignation and that Justino Mora (co-founder and current Board Member of UndocuMedia) has denounced Francisco Barragán for his nepotism, and obstruction of justice and accountability; we are demanding for UndocuMedia, as a name and platform, be returned to its founders, the people who built it, and the undocumented community.

Today marks exactly 3 weeks since Karla Estrada went public with her story of discrimination, abuse, and sexual advances at the hands of Ivan Ceja, former Executive Director of UndocuMedia. Denea Joseph and Yadira Martinez followed with their own testimonies exposing Ivan Ceja’s anti-blackness, unprofessionalism, and inability to hold himself accountable. On August 2nd, Ivonne Franco went public with her testimony, she confirmed Karla’s story and Justino Mora’s statements, and further provided details about Ivan’s misogyny, sexism, and unprofessionalism.

Francisco must listen to UndocuMedia’s constituency and move out of the way so that the platform and organization can be restructured and rebuilt with a better team. If Francisco Barragan and Ivan Ceja truly care about the immigrant community, then they should hold themselves accountable and move out of the way. We call on ALL UndocuMedia followers, the immigrant community, and our allies to demand the immediate resignation of Francisco Barragan and Ivan Ceja from UndocuMedia.

Sincerely,

The Immigrant Community and Allies
