Urge Congress: Empower States to Create Single-Payer Universal Healthcare Plans!

Congress

Contact Congress today to pass the State-Based Universal Health Care Act of 2023

We all know someone who has avoided healthcare for too long for fear of cost. We are all aware of people who struggle under crushing medical debt as they suffer prolonged illness or injury.

All other developed countries have universal healthcare systems with healthier residents unburdened by medical debt. They have longer lives and lower infant and maternal mortality.

No one should struggle to access health care. Several states are ready to create their own Universal, Simple, Affordable (USA) healthcare plans for all their residents.

State-by-state is likely the fastest route to our goal of a comprehensive national USA plan: expanded and improved Medicare for All. After all, state-by-state is how women won the vote and how we won Social Security!

It's time for the “State-Based Universal Health Care Act” (SBUHCA, HR 6270) to be enacted into law. It was introduced November 8, 2023 by Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17) with 26 original cosponsors. See Rep. Khanna’s press release here.

What SBUHCA does:

  • Mandates that participating states guarantee healthcare coverage for at least 95% of residents in the first 5 years, thus reducing the current uninsured and underinsured population to less than 5% (currently 30% in most states).

  • Requires participating state plans to provide benefits greater than or equal to those in existing federal health care programs.

  • Allows groups of states to create regional healthcare plans.

  • Provides innovative simplified-payment models for the nation as a whole.

  • Paves the way to national single-payer healthcare for all.

Take Action!

Please support, co-sponsor, and pass the State-Based Universal Health Care Act of 2023, as introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna of California:

With this bill you can open the door for states to develop their own universal, simplified-payment, and affordable (USA) plans. A USA plan will drastically reduce administrative overhead, freeing billions of dollars for our healthcare and other necessities of life. State-by-state can be the fastest route to a national plan. State-by-state was the route to direct election of Senators, women’s suffrage, Social Security and much more. Province by province was Canada's route.

The State-Based Universal Health Care Act of 2023, as introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna of California:

-Allows states to get federal waivers making it simpler to achieve a Universal, Simplified-payment, and Affordable (USA) plan.
--Requires the plan to have benefits equal to or greater than those that the beneficiaries of federal healthcare programs now receive.
-Allows a group of states to have a joint plan.
-Makes it simpler to plan for including Medicare funds in the state plan.
-Makes equitable, high-quality healthcare accessible to everyone.
