Urge MA DNC Delegates to be Ceasefire delegates and say “Not another bomb”

Massachusetts Democratic Party Leadership and Delegates to the Democratic National Convention

Sign our petition to urge Massachusetts DNC delegates to pledge to be Ceasefire Delegates and join a growing movement to say “Not another bomb” for Israel’s horrific mass atrocities against Palestinians. President Biden’s unconditional support for Israel’s atrocities have alienated the Democratic base in a critical election year.

Delegates represent their state or community at their party's presidential nominating convention. Having our Democratic state delegates pledge to be "Ceasefire delegates" won't impact Harris' nomination, but it could help to pressure the Democratic party leadership to make a material policy shift to end US funding for Israel's atrocities and broker an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Ceasefire Delegates support:

  • Language in the Democratic Party and campaign platform to support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and offensive arms embargo on Israel

  • Meeting between the elected leadership of the Uncommitted delegation, Vice President Harris, and Harris campaign Middle East Policy staff

  • A Ceasefire Delegate speaker at the DNC to discuss the proposal for an arms embargo and permanent ceasefire in the party platform;

  • Physical space for a daily Ceasefire delegation vigil;

  • Programming regarding the lack of party consensus on U.S. foreign policy on Israel/Palestine;

A recent poll shows that 86% of Democrats, and 2 out of 3 American voters support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and 70% of Democrats believe that the U.S. should condition military aid to Israel on its compliance with international law. Furthermore, 62% of 2020 Biden voters agree that the US should stop weapons shipments to Israel until it ceases its attacks on the people of Gaza. Adopting this mainstream position is critical for electoral victories in crucial swing states and winning back key constituencies, like youth and communities of color, including Arab and Muslim voters, who have been alienated by the Biden-Harris administration's unconditional support for forced famine and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Vice President Harris is missing a key opportunity to acknowledge that our tax dollars have been spent on killing children, and advocate instead that the party must pivot to address the concerns of ordinary Americans: soaring food costs, a lack of affordable housing, a healthcare crisis, racial equality, workers’ rights, and a sustainable future. In this year alone, our government sent over $21 billion in unconditional military aid to Israel in 2024, the second-highest level of U.S. military aid ever provided to Israel.

The petition below will be delivered to the delegates and Democratic Party Leadership next week, and in installments in the interim. Please, reply to (VotenopreferenceMA@gmail.com) if you have connections with any of the delegates and are interested in helping to pressure delegates directly.

We write as your constituents to urge you to pledge to be a Ceasefire Delegate and join a growing movement to say “Not another bomb” for Israel’s horrific mass atrocities against Palestinians. Please become a Ceasefire Delegate by signing the delegate letter to Kamala Harris asking her to support a permanent ceasefire and an offensive arms embargo on Israel. While this would not alter the nomination process, it would send a strong message to Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party leadership to push for an immediate, permanent ceasefire and arms embargo. President Biden’s unconditional support for Israel’s atrocities have alienated the Democratic base in a critical election year. Now is the moment to unify the Democratic Party and regain the trust of the base, including over 700,000 Uncommitted voters who have been disillusioned by the administration’s failure to halt this unpopular war.

A recent poll shows that 86% of Democrats, and 2 out of 3 American voters support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and 70% of Democrats believe that the U.S. should condition military aid to Israel on its compliance with international law. Ceasefire Delegates support:

Language in the Democratic Party and campaign platform that unequivocally supports a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and offensive arms embargo on Israel

A meeting between the elected leadership of the Uncommitted delegation, Vice President Harris, senior Harris campaign and administrative staff who determine US Middle East foreign policy to discuss these demands.

A Ceasefire Delegate speaker at the DNC to address the importance of including an arms embargo and permanent ceasefire in the party platform;

Physical space for a daily Ceasefire delegation vigil for lives lost;

Programming (e.g. panel or debate) in the afternoon regarding the lack of party consensus on U.S. foreign policy regarding Israel/Palestine;

Current events in Gaza are catastrophic. At least 40,000 Palestinians have been killed and 2 million Gazans are suffering from forced famine. The healthcare system has been decimated, allowing rampant spread of disease and minimal medical aid for civilians injured by Israel’s attacks. Polio has been detected in Gaza, threatening one million children with infection and possible paralysis. The recent escalation risks igniting a widespread conflict across the Middle East, potentially drawing the United States into war. While here at home, we face acute affordable housing shortages, soaring food costs, a healthcare crisis, and extremist right-wing forces threatening our democracy.

Harris and the Democratic Party leadership risk a repeat of 1968, as support for an unpopular war has alienated the party base. Far from dissipating, the opposition to the war has been growing among youth voters, labor unions and communities of color. A change in tone is insufficient. The people need to see material policy change, and the party can’t win the election without the base. A broad and diverse coalition of Democratic voters and allied organizations from national labor unions to the NAACP have advocated for a ceasefire. Over 150 cities across the US have passed ceasefire resolutions. This grassroots movement could be transformed into a massive voter turnout effort for a resounding Democratic Party victory in November. Now is the time to unite the Democratic Party behind the morally just and strikingly popular Ceasefire position, endorsed by a growing chorus of elected officials and Democratic Party leaders including former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

The Biden-Harris administration has been most successful when it has represented a broad coalition. The future of American democracy is at stake and we need an unprecedented turnout of Democrats, including young voters. We can’t afford to lose this election!

We urge you to pledge to be a Ceasefire Delegate and to seize the opportunity to follow the will of the US public going into November. Let’s ensure the Democratic Party reflects our nation’s highest ideals and our unwavering commitment to a future where every human being can live in dignity and safety. Not another bomb.
