UPDATE: Kerlin has been granted bail, but ICE continues to refuse to release him. We demand that Kerlin be released and reunited with his family.

Kerlin Moreno Orellano was detained on June 16 in Jackson, MS. His arrest and detention was allegedly related to what has been characterized as an illegal dumping incident that, under most circumstances, should have resulted in a simple citation. Orellano is a husband and father of four, with a child who is one year old.

While Kerlin remains in custody, the only other individual arrested at the dumping site alongside Kerlin—who is white—was released shortly after the arrest. This unequal treatment raises serious concerns about racial bias in law enforcement practices and the inconsistent application of justice under the law.

This is a blatant example of discrimination.

Families should not be separated!
