Vote KavaNO Senator Murkowski

We thank you for your strong stance on health care and reproductive rights. A majority of Alaskans, and two-thirds of the independents who elected you agree with you that the Senate should not confirm a Supreme Court Justice who will overturn Roe v. Wade and undermine our ability to make our own family planning choices.
Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, has a record not only against reproductive rights but also against workers rights. Also troubling, Kavanaugh has said that a sitting President should be exempt from criminal prosecution and investigation.
• He consistently sides with big corporations against workers’ rights and workplace safety.
Kavanaugh tried to block a 17-year-old detainee’s constitutional right to abortion. His decision was overturned on appeal.
• Kavanaugh said that the President does not have to enforce a law if he believes the law is unconstitutional. In our system, only the courts decide if a law is unconstitutional–not the President.
• He said that a sitting President should be exempt from criminal prosecution and investigation, including questioning by prosecutors or defense counsel. This means a President would not even have to answer questions about possible crimes while he is in office.
Here in Alaska, we are terrified that under a Kavanaugh Supreme Court, hundreds of thousands of us would lose access to safe, effective health care and autonomy over our bodies. We fear that the brave men and women who take on tough and dangerous work to bring prosperity to their families and our state will lose their protections. And we worry that if the federal government, under this president, or a future president, takes action that harms Alaska and we take it to court, this Supreme Court will automatically decide against working Alaskans.

He may say that he will respect precedent, but we in Alaska think actions speak louder than words. Just look at his record of attempting to deny people rights currently protected by the Supreme Court, and the way he bends over backwards to twist our laws to fit his authoritarian ideology. And just look at all the other actions this White House and its allies have taken against our individual rights.

Please take your duty as a senator representing our great state, and your role of advice and consent seriously, and vote NO on Brett Kavanaugh for the United States Supreme Court.

Sincerely,
