We Demand Better Transparency and Consultation at HP8

DHL

Transparency is necessary to maintain trust between workers and management during the pandemic. This has not occurred in any meaningful way. We are informed about positive cases and close contacts at the last possible moment, days after rumours have spread through warehouse. This is unacceptable and makes us feel unsafe. It is a health and safety risk. DHL must do better.

Consultation has also been inadequate. Major changes are implemented with a few days notice. This begun with major shift changes at the start of the pandemic. We are now seeing it with the introduction of mandatory vaccinations for everyone attending the warehouse from September 17th. We have been given a couple of day's notice for a major change to our working conditions. A proper and robust consultation is required. You have not engaged in this and have thus breached the Enterprise Agreement. You are required to meet with the official and site delegates to discuss the implications of this new policy before it is implemented.

We are pro-vaccine and we want to ensure our colleagues and families are protected during the outbreak. We want to work with you to make this happen. The pandemic does not excuse you from responsibilities to consult, especially because it goes beyond the scope of the current health mandates.

We have a identified a number of issues with this approach. You need to fully explain what happens to people who do not have the vaccination after next week (for example, what if they are unable to obtain a vaccination before the date). Will they continue working at the alternative site? Will they be directed to use their leave entitlements? Will they be stood down and if so, on what basis?

We have worked extremely hard during the pandemic. The least we deserve is clarity and transparency from the management. This will reduce our anxiety during a very stressful time. This should be your goal as a company.

As such, we ask that you arrange a meeting with the UWU and delegates as soon as possible to discuss this change and a better process for consultation in the future.
