WE DEMAND THAT THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT FULLY FUND A COMMUNITY FOOD HUB PER EVERY 500 HOUSEHOLDS
The Scottish Government
Hunger is a political choice that the Scottish Government has made. Our government is failing to fulfill its legal obligation to us to provide affordable and accessible food, a fundamental human right which was given to us by the International Bill of Human rights and ratified into law by the Government. 1 in 4 Scottish citizens have experienced food insecurity in the last year and nearly 1000 children were rushed to hospital in ambulances due to the effects of severe malnutrition. In one of the richest economies in the world this is unacceptable and shows that our government is failing to provide for this basic necessity.
We demand that the Scottish Government fully fund a community food hub per every 500 households, to ensure all people, everywhere in Scotland have access to a baseline level of food security and are able to access good quality, culturally appropriate food in a dignified, welcoming local space.

WE DEMAND THAT YOU, THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT, FULLY FUND A COMMUNITY FOOD HUB PER EVERY 500 HOUSEHOLDS.
We demand the community food hubs be:
Not means tested - the food must be available to all members of the community.
A welcoming, dignified community space - this is not a hand-out.
Working with existing community groups - where community food projects exist, they must be properly resourced to be able to provide for their communities, where no such projects exist, they must be set up.
Funded according to need - some communities may need more funding/support to set up food hubs and will be allocated funds as such
Designed according to needs of the community - consulting with existing community projects, not imposing a standard template on all communities.
Provide 3 nutritious, vegan meals a day, and a cup of tea at any time- this is the cheapest and most accessible option for nutritious meals, and accommodates the widest range of faith-based diets.
Designed in collaboration with This is Rigged and our allied groups.
This is not to be just another government hand-out scheme, placing a band-aid over a gaping wound. This is about working with and for communities, building community resilience and adaptability in the face of the multiple crises we are enduring. This is about taking collective responsibility for our basic needs, when the system currently in place to provide them has failed.
