We Support Inclusive Language for All Educators in Jeffco

Jeffco School District

Currently, Jeffco School District has a strong Anti Discrimination policy (https://www.boarddocs.com/co/jeffco/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=87CU2T5E453A). However, we have heard from some of our LGBTQ+ educators that there is a need to add more language to our policy and regulations supporting their rights to be out (if they so choose) in their school communities, as well as guidelines and trainings to help administrators and staff  better support LGBTQ+ educators, similar to the regulation guideline document that already exists for supporting equal educational opportunities for transgender students (https://www.boarddocs.com/co/jeffco/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=87CU3R5E46DA#).

As educators and community members in Jeffco, we recognize the importance in allowing all educators to feel safe and comfortable in their schools. We feel all educators should have the opportunity to be open and proud of who they are in the community, without having to hide key elements of who they are to their students.

Therefore, we stand with our LGBTQ community in asking for the Jeffco School District to strengthen policy language and provide more guidance to building and district leaders concerning the rights of our LGBTQ+ educators.

As educators and community members in Jeffco, we recognize the important in allowing all educators to feel safe and comfortable in their schools. We feels all educators should have the opportunity to be open and proud of who they are in their school community if they so choose, without having to hide key elements of who they are to their students and colleagues.

Therefore, we stand with our LGBTQ+ educator community in asking for the Jeffco School District to strengthen policy language and provide more guidance to building and district leaders concerning the rights of our LGBTQ educators.

We call for the Jeffco School District to strengthen its non-discrimination policy by adding language that protects educators' rights to be out about gender identity and sexual orientation and provide guidance to administrators on these rights for educators in their building.
