We’re the CVJC Guild, help us get recognized!

CVJC Leadership and Board of Directors

The Central Valley Journalism Collaborative has grown so much since being founded in 2021 by a grassroots community of mission-driven journalists looking to fight news deserts in the Valley.

Our staff count has continued to grow with partnerships and the opening of other newsrooms. The stakes are much higher. Our calls for accountability need a new approach, so we’ve come together to unionize.

This petition is our call for leadership to recognize us as the CVJC Guild. By signing this petition, you’re showing the Senior Leadership Team and the Board that our effort has a strong backing. Please sign and share with your networks.

Thank you for supporting CVJC Guild as we advocate for fairness in the workplace and strive to strengthen the services we deliver to our communities.

Our Mission

The journalists of the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative are unionizing as the CVJC Guild to fight for a healthy, inclusive, and equitable work environment that empowers journalists to deliver news that reflects what our community expects and demands from us.

As members of the communities we cover, we are forming this union to ensure our journalism serves our neighbors.

We embrace the spirit of collaboration, which is at the core of our organization’s name. We want to work alongside CVJC leadership to build the best workplace we can for the future journalists of CVJC.

When workers are more included in the process, they feel more invested in the organization’s success. We believe that by working together, we can make CVJC the premier journalism workplace in the region.

That is why we are asking the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative to voluntarily recognize us as a new bargaining unit as a part of the Pacific Media Workers Guild Local 39521 TNG - CWA. We hope to collaborate with CVJC leadership through a democratic approach so we can produce journalism that is truly by and for the people of the San Joaquin Valley.
