Wisconsin Needs a Stronger Good Sam 911 Law
Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate
Wisconsin families can't bear to lose more loved ones because people at the scene of an overdose are afraid to call 911.
We can change that now. We have two bills in the legislature (AB 634 and SB 595) that would strengthen the current law.

Wisconsin has almost five overdose deaths each day. Legislative action is needed
now!
As your constituent, I urge you to take action to strengthen the 911 Good
Samaritan Law. Will you co-sponsor AB 634 and SB 595? These bills would
restore the immunities that were granted in 2017.
In 2017, WI State Stat 961.443 (2) was expanded to provide immunity to aiders on
probation/parole and extended supervision who call 911 during an overdose. The
statute also gave overdose survivors immunity via deferred prosecution if a
treatment program was completed.
These provisions expired in August 2020. Since that time, Wisconsin has seen
overdose deaths increase.
It's time for the Wisconsin Legislature to act. We must do everything we can to
encourage any person to call 911 if they witness an overdose.
