Workers at the Uncommons NYC need safe working conditions NOW!

Gregory May, Owner of the Uncommons

The workers of the Uncommons consistently work full shifts in unacceptable heat next to machines emitting exhaust above 90 degrees. The owner Greg May has failed to adequately respond to the staff's demand for a plan of action regarding the broken AC, which electrocuted a worker three months ago. Dear Gregory May,

We are writing to you as concerned customers and community members of the Uncommons in regards to your employees’ unsafe working conditions. We have heard that your employees are regularly working in a very hot climate for their entire shifts, standing next to exhaust measuring above 90 degrees amongst other machines that produce a lot of heat. Most egregiously, we heard that an employee was electrocuted while handling the broken AC. We love the staff that make the Uncommons great, and we believe that they deserve to have a safe workplace. The “updates” from you and your lawyer that have been provided to the staff thus far have been unspecific and unsatisfactory. Please respond immediately to your employees’ demand for a concrete timeline and plan of action regarding the overheating issue in the store.

Sincerely,
Concerned customers and community members of the Uncommons
