Re: Workplace Safety and Training

We have concerns regarding the safety of our residents and ourselves. We feel that providing additional training and following our Standard Operating Procedures are appropriate steps to addressing these concerns.
We ask that you consider the following:
Appropriate Level of Supervision assigned to each resident per Yakima Valley School Standard Operating Procedure 1.08, Level of Supervision and 4.10, Recreation Program. Standard Operating Procedure 4.10, Section E, Recreation Program states: “The level of supervision during community and off-campus activities must be equal to or greater than the supervision provided at the individual's residence.” We currently feel that the level of supervision, both on and off campus, is not adequate for some of our residents.
Appropriate training on workplace violence prevention as outlined in Yakima Valley School Standard Operating Procedure 3.18, Workplace Violence Prevention Manual. We are asking for additional training to be more adequately prepared to manage potentially violent situations.
We request training to specifically address emergencies where a resident may be making threats of self-harm, including suicide.

We hope you will consider our requests.

Sincerely YVS Staff,
