Massachusetts Legislature + Private Colleges and Universities
Add your name to the Zero Debt Massachusetts petition, and together we'll call on the Massachusetts Legislature and the network of Massachusetts private colleges and universities to address the inequitable, unacceptable, and broken higher education financial system. The Zero Debt Massachusetts coalition organizes to elevate students, families, and community voices to advocate for affordable higher education and to be a catalyst for change, ensuring that the people who are most impacted by student debt are the ones leading the fight.
As the future generation of Massachusetts college students, college alumni carrying insurmountable debt, parents taking out second mortgages to help our children get out of debt, and grandparents stepping in to support two generations of student debt burden - we all know student debt is a national crisis.
Consequentially, we call on the state of Massachusetts to take bold action - pass a student loan borrowers bill of rights, protect student loan borrowers from revocation of their professional certificates, and consider a pathway to a system of debt-free higher education in Massachusetts.
We implore the private colleges and universities of Massachusetts to leverage small percentages of their awe inspiring endowments to offer students zero debt degrees by funding grants that do not need to be repaid by students or families.
The voices of those most affected by the broken higher education financial system and student debt crisis will not be absent from the decision making process which directly impacts our daily lives and our futures any longer.
