Help us understand Sick Pay

Research by the Centre for Progressive Change and TUC reveals around one in four workers in the UK rely on Statutory Sick Pay - the legal minimum employers must pay when someone needs to take time off sick. This is currently £116.75 for up to 28 weeks, payable after the first three days off work.

Citizens Advice has just released new findings, showing that 78% of the UK's lowest-income earners - around 1.6 million people - would fall behind on bills after only a few weeks off work. This predominantly affects women, ethnic minority communities and disabled people. At current rates, this creates a preventable cliff edge that forces people to choose between taking time off and getting into debt, or prolonging their recovery by going into work and potentially putting others at risk.

The #SafeSickPay campaign is partnered with various businesses and national charities, calling on Government to increase the rate of Statutory Sick Pay so that no one is prevented from getting time off to recover.

We are reaching out to responsible businesses to better understand the landscape of Statutory Sick Pay, how raising the rate may affect you, and to find good practice where it exists.

The survey should only take 1-2 minutes. Your answers will only be seen by the Safe Sick Pay team and will not be shared. Please fill out your details and opt-in to receive updates, and in case we need to ask a follow up question.
