Show Up for Housing: How can N4MN Volunteers get involved in the 2025 Legislative Session?

In just a few short weeks, after the beginning of the year, the Minnesota Legislature will reconvene and will be considering several important proposals being brought forward by N4MN and the coalition we helped to build. Thanks to your State Policy Task Force, we are working on several exciting proposals we’re going to be pushing forward in 2025.
Our housing stories can make a real difference to help legislators understand why we want to allow duplexes across the state, or why we need to allow more homes near jobs and transit.
As we get ready for session, here are some important things to consider:
- How has the need for more homes impacted you and your family? Have you had access to an affordable home near work that has made all the difference? Or have you had to search high and low for an apartment or a home that met your needs? What about your family and friends? How will these policies help make our community better for all of us?
- What are the ways in which you think our communities would be better and stronger if we had more neighbors?
During the 2025 legislative session, N4MN will need our members to help pass the ambitious policies to address the urgent need for more than 100,000 homes across Minnesota for our neighbors. We’ve helped to build a powerful coalition, and we’re ready to take on the task! We know the policies we’re advocating for are effective to increase our supply of homes, and we know they’re popular and have broad support by the majority of Minnesotans. We’ll still face significant opposition from the League of Minnesota Cities, who fear us taking away their “local control”. We’ll need all of us to paint a positive vision for what Minnesota can be and do to counteract their opposition and fearmongering.
In 2024, we worked together to successfully save comprehensive plans, and we’re excited about what we can win in 2025. There are so many ways you can get involved - and each of them is meaningful and important. Whether you want to work behind the scenes, write emails, make phone calls, attend an event, or all of the above, we need you to help get involved in 2025! The session will last from January until May, and we’ll need people to help out whenever they can, however they can.
Because of you, we’ve helped make sure Minneapolis can add more homes, we’ve helped to save comprehensive plans across the metro area, and we’re on our way to building more homes statewide. Together, we know we can make a big and positive impact on making sure more of our neighbors have a home they can afford that meets their needs.
If you want to learn more about any of these commitments, please reach out to Angela at n4mnstatepolicytaskforce@gmail.com or add your question in the survey. Everyone can play a role in advancing our priorities in the Legislature, whether you want to have a behind the scenes or out in front role, and whether you can commit to one hour over the next six months, or one hour a week for the next six months.
Thank you!
