Governor Newsom is talking tough on Big Oil and trying to stop them from fleecing us at the gas pump. But, we need him to truly move California beyond fossil fuels once and for all - by ending neighborhood drilling, halting all new fossil fuel permits, and supporting a full, coordinated, and just transition off of fossil fuels to give workers and communities clear timelines to plan.
Join frontline community members, organizers, and movement leaders for a dynamic evening in Oakland to learn what Governor Newsom must do next to protect our communities and our climate and to join the broad-based movement that we’re building to demand action. Featuring:
- Alfredo Angulo (Communities for a Better Environment)
- Cemre Gonen (Youth vs. Apocalypse)
- Cesar Aguirre (Central California Environmental Justice Network)
- Chirag Bhakta (Food & Water Watch)
- Isabella Zizi (Idle No More SF-Bay)
- Jennifer Esteen (SEIU 1021)
- Michelle Mascarenhas (Movement Generation Justice & Ecology Project / Sierra Club)
- Shoshana Wechsler (Sunflower Alliance)
- Lu Aya (The Peace Poets)
- And, longtime activist, author, and co-founder of organizations like 350.org and Third Act - Bill McKibben!
Doors open at 6pm, and the event will run from 7pm-9pm.
Big Oil bullies are ripping off Californians, polluting our air and water, poisoning our communities, and setting us on a path toward climate destruction. Oil and gas companies just spent over $20 million to put a lifesaving environmental justice law on hold. Meanwhile, communities along the refinery corridor in the Bay Area bear the daily health impacts of our fossil fuel economy. Oil refineries and neighborhood drilling sites are running up hospital bills for our communities and threatening our climate progress.
To get the Governor to act, we need to build our movement's power. That’s why the Last Chance Alliance – representing 900+ community, environmental, and public health organizations worldwide – is hitting the road for a 7-stop statewide tour through Los Angeles (Apr 28), Ventura (Apr 29), Santa Barbara (Apr 30), San Diego (May 6), Kern County (May 7), Oakland (May 12), and Sacramento (May 13)!
To make this event accessible, we are selling sliding-scale tickets to cover event costs and support ongoing organizing efforts. If needed (including if you have any tech issues with this page), please email info@oilgasaction.org to request a complimentary ticket or if you have any transportation needs to the event.
