Calling In All Troublemakers: Community Building through Anti-Racist Practice
We are here to stand up for justice.
The system of oppression in which we live seeks to weaken us by pitting us against each other in every way. Racism has been, and continues to be, a key strategy to divide us. As things fall apart, this moment insists we turn towards one another instead of turning on one another. In order to be good partners in solidarity across racial differences, we need ongoing skill-building and practice within all our communities.
This workshop is an opportunity to work together to infuse this growing mass movement with anti-racist practice in order to build strong coalitions today and into the future. It is intended as a starting point for Troublemakers of all backgrounds and experience to begin engaging in anti-racist practice as a community.
This workshop will focus on
Strengthening confidence to work skillfully with differences, especially racial identity, while in community, in coalition, and interpersonally.
Increasing awareness of what local community activists have learned about working across race, what we could do better, and applying this to the work of our movement.
Learning the skills of “calling in” that address actions which have a negative impact in ways that strengthen rather than strain or break connections.
Building capacity in anticipating and being prepared to manage the reactivity that often arises in racialized moments.
Please make a donation to offset the workshop expenses. Choose an option that aligns with your personal economics. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please email TMCallingIn@gmail.com for alternative donation amounts or a free ticket.
Upon registration, we will email you a few questions to help us tailor the workshop to participants’ needs. Please respond.
We look forward to learning together, deepening community connections, and strengthening our multi-racial liberatory movements.
