Join us for an intimate screening of Daughters of the Dust (1991), a groundbreaking film by Julie Dash that beautifully captures the lives of a Gullah family, led by their matriarch, gathering prior to most of them migrate north. Through poetic storytelling and stunning visuals, the film explores themes of Black womanhood, ancestry, and the tensions between tradition and change.

Following the screening, we’ll engage in a rich discussion about the film’s themes and their resonance today. A creative activity will invite us to reflect and express our own connections to heritage, migration, and cultural legacy. To deepen the experience, we’ll also share food inspired by the film, honoring the culinary traditions of the Gullah people.

Come ready to watch, reflect, and create in community.
