Join us on Sunday, May 10 for a special Mother's Day screening: one that calls us to unite the movement for climate justice with the struggle against the forces of imperialism, colonialism, militarism, fascism, and genocide, all in the name of defending Mother Earth.

Earth's Greatest Enemy is the second feature film by journalist Abby Martin — a groundbreaking work of anti-imperialist environmental filmmaking that took Abby and co-director Mike Prysner on a five-year fact-finding journey. Exempt from international climate agreements and rarely scrutinized in mainstream reporting, the Pentagon is the world’s single largest institutional polluter—spewing carbon, contaminating water, and scarring landscapes across the globe. Combining investigative journalism, striking visuals, and stories from impacted communities, this film challenges audiences to rethink the hidden costs of a global military empire and its planetary consequences.

This film will change how you see both militarism and environmentalism — and the politicians who serve one while claiming to fight for the other, including Canada’s own Liberal party. Mark Carney arrived in office wrapped in the language of climate leadership and has spent every month since dismantling it, pouring a historic $81.8 billion into military rearmament. Julie Dabrusin, our very own Toronto-Danforth Liberal MP, and Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature, recently voted NO to closing the arms export loophole that allows Canada to supply weapons for Israel's genocide in Gaza, ICE, and Trump's devastating war on Iran.

This screening is our invitation to our Toronto family and east end neighbours to gather and learn how we can fight back. After the film, we will be joined by special guest speakers:

  • Rachel Small, organizer for World BEYOND War, is a founding member of the Jews Say No to Genocide Coalition and coordinates the Arms Embargo Now campaign. She has two decades of grassroots organizing experience, with a focus on helping communities harmed by Canadian extractive industries.
  • Arnd Jurgensen is the current chair of the Canadian Network for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. He has been active in the environmental and peace movements for over 40 years, and teaches international politics at the University of Toronto.
  • Virginia Thomson is a member of Seniors for Climate Action Now! (SCAN!) a cross-Canada organization founded in 2021 to mobilize seniors for emergency climate action. Virginia is the Chair of SCAN!’s Climate and Militarism Working Group.
  • Sharmeen Khan is a South Asian feminist and socialist with three decades of experience in movements and activist media. She organizes with Toronto World BEYOND War, No One Is Illegal-Toronto, and is an editor for Upping the Anti: A Journal of Theory and Action.

There will be a bake sale offering sweet and savoury treats, as well as keffiyehs and other items. The venue offers bar service. We'll be hosting another edition of our popular ART RAFFLE featuring the beautiful work of artist/designer/author, Michael DeForge!

Please bring one non-perishable food item to contribute to Community Fridges in the east end.

All proceeds from tickets and the bake sale will be donated to grassroots climate justice work by the Scarborough Environmental Association, mutual aid for families in Gaza, the Toronto Community Justice Fund, and East End Acts. East End Acts for Palestine is a grassroots solidarity group made of community members from the Toronto-Danforth & Beaches-East York neighbourhoods, mobilizing to create political and social change.

If there is a financial barrier to purchasing a ticket, please email us at eastendacts@gmail.com
