East End Acts for Palestine and Toronto East Anti-Hate Mobilization (TEAM) are proud to present EVERYBODY TO KENMURE STREET, from executive producer Emma Thompson and director Felipe Bustos Sierra (¡Nae Pasaran!).

One quiet May morning in Glasgow, the first day of Eid, started as any other — until a van marked Immigration Enforcement pulled up on Kenmure Street. Word quickly spread through community networks that two local men, both longtime residents, were snatched up for deportation. Hundreds of people left their daily lives to rush down to Kenmure Street and put their bodies on the line. One man forces his way under the van to prevent it from leaving. Thousands more suporters pour in, filming, chanting, and blockading the van in solidarity.

Though mostly strangers and with almost no planning, this extremely diverse group organized themselves, taking on essential roles to allow the collective to achieve their goal: protecting their own from government forces going after the most vulnerable among them.

A love letter to civil disobedience and an inspiring and profoundly moving portrait of what “normal” citizens are capable of in the face of injustice, EVERYBODY TO KENMURE STREET reminds us of the power that is always inherent in the people.

That power lies within our communities, too. If we can come together to block jets from the island airport, we can sway elections — and help end Canada's complicity in genocide. After the film, we'll be joined by a panel of special guest speakers involved in neighbourhood organizing, migrant justice, encampment support, and community response:

  • Marianna Reis is an organizer, researcher, and educator based in Toronto. She is a former member of Students for Justice in Palestine and ESN Parkdale, and is the current president of CUPE 3902, which represents more than 10,000 contract academic workers and researchers at the University of Toronto.
  • Karl Gardner is an organizer and researcher based in Toronto. He is the author ofb Organizing Sanctuary: Migrant Justice and Abolitionist Activism in Canadian Cities. He is currently the staff organizer at the Elementary Teachers of Toronto.
  • Maya Menezes is an organizer, in her unpaid work she was a member of Bloordale Community Response and longtime member of No One Is illegal. In her paid work she was the outgoing program Director of The Leap and is currently an organizer for CUPE.

With our beloved moderator Rania El Mugammar, Sudanese artist and liberation educator, we'll discuss what community care can look like here in the east end, and how our collective local power can make a difference in our neighbourhood, our city and beyond.

There will be a bake sale offering sweet and savoury treats, as well as keffiyehs and other items. The venue offers bar service. Please bring one non-perishable food item to contribute to Community Fridges in the east end.

All proceeds from tickets and the bake sale will be donated to relief for First Nations communities affected by the devastating wildfires in Northwestern Ontario, as well as mutual aid for families in Gaza, the Toronto Community Justice Fund, and East End Acts. East End Acts for Palestine is a grassroots solidarity group made of community members from the Toronto-Danforth & Beaches-East York neighbourhoods, mobilizing to create political and social change.

The Redwood Theatre is wheelchair accessible. There is a single stall, accessible all-gender washroom. There is an industrial HEPA air filter in use. Masks are encouraged and will be provided. Street parking is free after 6 p.m.
