The planning system is constantly being updated, but do recent reforms to the NPPF and local plans make it easy to live car free if you choose? The new towns are a flagship policy of a government that wants to build thousands of homes. We explore if the planning system is capable of delivering on the infrastructure and amenity promises that have been made and discuss the implications for the many more homes that will be built outside of the new town areas. If the current system isn't working, what should replace it? What can be learnt from other European countries when it comes to delivering large-scale housing around sustainable transport?
