On June 6, join us for a screening of some important short films: Sumud, by director Jan Haaken, follows American anesthesiologist Dr. Travis Meleen as he works with Palestinian surgical teams at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, fighting to save lives against all odds under Israel's campaign of medicide and genocide. Clinical Silence is a new short documentary series by Toronto photographer and filmmaker Jay Geerts, premiering at our screening. In the first two installments, We Are Not Safe and We Are Part of This, Dr. Suzan and Dr. Yipeng Ge reflect on the personal, professional and ethical dimensions of healthcare workers bearing witness to trauma, grief, and survival — grappling with the silence of their colleagues and institutions, and the price paid by those who dare to speak out.
- Dr. Dorotea Gucciardo and Dr. Tarek Loubani, founder and medical director of Glia, a global innovator of high-quality medical equipment working alongside Palestinian clinicians, engineers, and communities to build open-source medical technologies that can save lives under siege.
- Jay Geerts, Toronto-based documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on intimate, character-driven storytelling rooted in lived experience and social justice
- Omar El Akkad, Egyptian-Canadian journalist and award-winning author of American War and One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This.
- Samira Mohyeddin, award-winning journalist, filmmaker and founder of On The Line media, joining us as moderator
- Mona Ayesh, beloved Palestinian dabke performer, community leader, and founder of Dabke4Palestine, who will close the evening with her students in a performance and song
