East End Acts is proud to present a screening of THE TEACHER, the feature debut of Palestinian-British filmmaker Farah Nabulsi. The film endeavours to take audiences on an intense, emotional journey into the lives and experiences of those living in occupied and colonised Palestine, and the hardships and difficult choices they have to make under a system of apartheid and genocide.

This gripping drama follows a Palestinian school teacher (Saleh Bakri) who struggles to reconcile his life-threatening commitment to political resistance with his emotional support for one of his students (Muhammad Abed El Rahman). Shot in and around Nablus amid real-life settler violence, the film premiered at TIFF in 2023 and has won numerous international awards.

After the film, we will be joined by a special guest speaker: a Palestinian psychotherapist with lived experience of the daily dehumanizations of the occupation, who will shed light on the trauma faced by Palestinian youth in Israeli prisons.

East End Acts for Palestine is a grassroots solidarity group made of community members from the Toronto-Danforth & Beaches-East York neighborhoods, mobilizing to create political and social change.

There will be a bake sale offering sweet and savoury treats, as well as keffiyehs and other items. The venue offers bar service.

All proceeds from tickets and the bake sale will be donated to mutual aid for families in Gaza, the Toronto Community Justice Fund, and East End Acts.

Please bring one non-perishable food item to contribute to Community Fridges in the east end.

If there is a financial barrier to purchasing a ticket, please email us at eastendacts@gmail.com
