Boycott Avelo Airlines

NO FLIGHTS FOR ABDUCTIONS!

    Avelo Airlines is a small Houston-based airline that used to fly casino charters; it rebranded in 2021 as a low-cost commercial carrier. It flies out of ~50 US airports and 4 international tourist destinations.

    In April, Avelo announced a $150 million contract to fly deportation flights for ICE out of the Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona. Days later, the New Haven Immigrants Coalition launched a public campaign, viral petition, and boycott of Avelo Airlines in a series of pickets at the terminal of Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport, the airline’s largest passenger hub. The campaign has gained tremendous support locally including from New Haven’s mayor and the majority of city council, as well as the Connecticut Attorney General, and the coalition is working to strip Avelo of state and city subsidies until it cuts the contract with ICE!

In April, several DSA chapters joined protests against the airline and days after Avelo started ICE flights on May 12, DSA endorsed the boycott of Avelo nationally. Now, DSA’s International Migrant Rights Working Group is building a national action team for the over 40 DSA chapters in one of Avelo’s 55 destination cities - and other chapters who want to organize to prevent Avelo from expanding to their communities.

   We are coordinating along with partners across the country to call on Avelo airlines to end their dirty ICE contract, and all public and private partners of the airline to end their partnerships with Avelo until they do so. Join us!
