Palantir Technologies is a U.S. military-tech company, funded by the CIA, that builds AI-powered tools for mass data collection and surveillance, which is currently fueling ICE-led deportations, genocide, and war worldwide. Despite this, Palantir technology is deeply embedded in the MaineHealth medical system.

Palantir is NOT a healthtech company, and what little experience they do have in the healthcare space has been a disaster. In 2020, Palantir won a large contract with the National Health Service in the UK. Since then, internal NHS reports have shown their data systems are ‘slow’, ‘clunky’, and ‘performed worse than our previous systems’. Since then, members of the NHS have been fighting to get Palantir out of their health system so they can begin to clean up the mess they left behind-and they’re not alone.

When it comes to the areas Palantir actually does specialize in - chiefly spycraft and warfare - the company has proved so reckless and incompetent with critical safety data and state secrets that multiple governments and governmental agencies have thrown them out. Instead, often opting to create their own bespoke data systems to protect their data sovereignty and state security.

From Spain to Switzerland, and France to the UK, the world is rejecting Palantir. So why is MaineHealth so invested in working with such a horrible company?

Corporations as incompetent and reckless as Palantir, which is responsible for gross violations of human rights worldwide, have no place in our healthcare system or our state. MaineHealth must drop Palantir!
