Queer Fight Club
Queer Fight Club is a community organized self-defense program for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. Topics include basic self-defense techniques, first aid training, conflict de-escalation, and how to recognize abuse and intimate partner violence.
We meet the first and third Mondays of each month from 7:00-8:30pm.
Queer Fight Club is a reaction against mainstream martial arts and self-defense methods that often fail to respect boundaries or listen to participants. Martial arts spaces frequently suffer from unhealthy attitudes or systems, such as toxic masculinity, toxic individualism, anti-queer rhetoric, refusal to accommodate differences, the encouragement of body-image issues, and over-reliance on tradition.
QFC’s mission is to do self-defense differently; we are more interested in community defense. We want our practice space to be consent-based, trauma-informed, body-positive, and inclusive. We want our students to be able to do more than protect themselves – we want them to be comfortable in their bodies and abilities, become proactive community members, support those around them, cultivate safe and nurturing environments, and pass on the skills they learn.
