On August 20, 1619, “20 and odd” Angolans, kidnapped by the Portuguese, arrive in the British colony of Virginia and are then bought by English colonists. The arrival of the enslaved Africans in the "New World" marks a beginning of two and a half centuries of slavery and an on going history of oppression, exploitation, inhumane treatment, and a second caste system.
Join All Of Us at the Electric City Barn on Saturday, August 20 at 5:00pm for a community dinner, discussion, reflection, and call to action as we answer the following questions as a community:
When did it all begin? Where are we now? Where are we going? How do we get there?
This is a free community dinner and children are welcome.
