Stop Rosebank – Birmingham event info
Join Greenpeace Birmingham and other climate-concerned groups and individuals in
support of the Stop Rosebank National Day of Action in Birmingham City Centre on
Sat 6th September from 12:00 - 14:00. Meet at Victoria Square in front of the Council
building. We hope to engage with passers-by by handing out leaflets about Rosebank,
asking them to sign the petition using the QR code linked to the action, will help people
to draft a short, simple letter to their MP (we will search for their MP on the spot and will
send their letters for them if they wish), discuss other related climate issues (e.g. major
Banks and Insurance companies underpinning fossil fuel expansion) and encourage
volunteering in local green groups and actions.
It would be good to have some small stands to show materials relating to the Fossil Fuel
problem but we have not applied to the Council for permission to do this. So if groups
want to bring a table/stand, I suggest it will need to be small, easy & quick to pull down
and mobile, in case we are moved on!! I understand that groups have often had small
stalls in this location without asking permission and they have not had a problem. So if
individual groups want to bring one, they would need to accept responsibility for this - I
assume if confronted, we would just dismantle them. We encourage people to bring their
own easy to hold and carry placards and banners linked to Rosebank and fossil fuels.
There will be some materials from the organisers but bring your own home made
placards too if possible.
We are likely to split our time between Victoria Square and Centenary Square to capture
people at both sites (starting with Victoria). Depending on the number of
protestors/supporters on the day, we may decide to split ourselves into 2 groups.
One of the main objectives of the protest is to also blitz social media platforms and tag
people with photos of the protest including Kier Starmer, relevant MPs and the Fossil
Fuel sites including Equinor & Ithaca - Rosebank's potential developers. We will want to
take photos in both of the squares as they are good landmarks and maybe at the end, by
the Bull at the Bull Ring shopping centre.
Greenpeace will arrange a zoom meeting in the next week to discuss coordination,
practicalities and issues raised. So please send your email addresses.
Look forward to seeing as many people as possible.
