It's been a full year since the Community POWER Act was introduced to bring empowered oversight over the NYPD, and it has yet to have a hearing. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Public Safety Committee Chair Kamillah Hanks have stalled the process and are keeping it from having a hearing. Join advocates, families, former CCRB investigators and many more to call on them and the whole city council to hold a hearing on the Community POWER Act, which would establish an elected and empowered civilian review board and Independent Prosecutor able to hold police accountable. Every week a new story proves the NYPD can't and won't police itself. Until we give the public the ability to hold police accountable, we are just waiting for another senseless death at the hands of officers.
