Campaign for an Elected Civilian Review Board
We are a coalition of organizations and individuals organizing for an Elected Civilian Review Board (“ECRB”) to replace the Civilian Complaint Review Board in New York City, which we believe is ineffective. We are also organizing for an Elected Special Prosecutor, which would replace the District Attorney in cases involving police perpetrators.
We
seek to achieve this crucial change through an
amendment to the NYC Charter by passing the Community POWER Act - or Police Oversight With Elected Review.
The ECRB is an urgently needed mechanism to stop police violence and to give real recourse to victims of police abuse. It would empower the community with oversight and hold the police accountable for their policies and actions. Members of the ECRB and the Special Prosecutor would be elected and have to answer to the people.
We work together democratically to win this reform and consciously build the participation and leadership of those most affected by police violence. We make decisions by majority vote in meetings, and participation is open to all those who agree with our goal.
