Public Hearing: 6:00 pm
On January 19, 2025, Sane Energy formally requested an in-person public hearing with the NYS Department of Public Service (DPS) regarding National Grid's Long-Term Gas Plan. After waiting for two months for a response, DPS offered only a virtual hearing—an approach that feels more like a box-checking exercise than genuine community engagement. This is just the latest example of how DPS has been combative, refusing to answer key discovery questions in the long-term gas plan proceeding and now sidelining our request for an in-person hearing.
We refuse to let them ignore us. For us, being in person at a public hearing is a radical, movement-building act. It transforms the experience from something individual into a collective one. We prepare together, we support each other, we improvise together, and we celebrate our victories together. That’s why we’re hosting our own in-person event. We will stream DPS’s WebEx session on a big screen, giving our community a space to amplify the conversation, make our voices heard, and show the strength of our collective power.
This hearing is crucial. It will impact whether the Public Service Commission (PSC) continues to invest in wasteful, dangerous, and underused gas infrastructure—like the Greenpoint LNG facility—or listens to our demand to shut it down and repurpose the land for community use. The Greenpoint LNG facility is a toxic, flood-prone, and expensive burden on our community.
Even if you can’t make it in person to the April 16th event, you can attend virtually! Every voice matters. Let’s show them we’re watching—and we won’t back down. Please RSVP for more details.
