Join our Immigrant Defense Team outside the Carroll County Commissioner's Office for our official weekly Eyes on ICE protest to wave signs and chant as we demand that Carroll County's Sheriff Department cease all involvement with ICE.

The Trump Administration would like you to believe that ICE is keeping communities safe. In fact, ICE is terrorizing communities, trampling due process, and brutally kidnapping your neighbors in unmarked cars and with masked faces. Under the direction of Carroll County Sheriff DeWees, the department is providing material support to ICE’s inhumane mission and tactics by participating in a 287(g) agreement, which uses Carroll County taxpayer money to divert deputies’ time and energy away from Carroll County law enforcement and to immigration enforcement.

We are standing up to demand that—

1. Carroll County Sheriff’s Office end all cooperation with ICE.

2. Carroll County Sheriff’s Office end the 287(g) agreement which trains deputies to perform some functions of an ICE officer.

We are also standing up and bringing attention to –

1. The increased policing and surveillance state that is enveloping our communities. Carroll County Sheriff’s office is allocated $38,267,360 for fiscal year 2026. In contrast, Carroll County recreation and social services programs are allocated a total of only $16,355,990. Our community wants investment in community support services and recreational opportunities – not militarized policing that puts us all at risk.

2. Sheriff DeWees’ clearly stated desire to protect land and landowners while supporting the violation of immigrants’ due process rights. When Elsy Berrios (Westminster mother and seamstress), was brutally kidnapped in Westminster, DeWees stated, “It’s about time they came up and got her. She’s no big loss to this community.” In contrast, in relation to the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP), DeWees stated that, “I will stand with landowners in this county and resist this project ‘til the bitter end.” Why does DeWees only want to protect certain residents’ rights?

Join us as we hold the Carroll County Sheriff’s office accountable for their actions and we demand that they stop using local taxpayer money to serve the brutal, inhumane, and illegal Trump administration agenda!
